How do I clean the tank weekly and monthly?

I have a 5 gallon tank with a filter plate and Betta get one soon. What Weekly maid I can be and what should be the monthly cleaning? Do I need a airstones in my tank? I have an air pump.

Each week, use a small gravel trap, or even a turkey baster to remove about 20-40% of water in the tank and suck up crud in the gravel as possible before they exceed 40% eliminated. Each month, the hook of the bottom filter siphon opening (I guess that is a bottom filter airstones power, so removing the air stone), and allow this to suck the waste built below the cell plate. EDIT: You do not want to delete the content of the tank, and especially do not want to wash the gravel! In a tank with a bottom filter, all bacteria fish poop that convert to less toxic compounds (nitrates) are in the bed of gravel, and cleaning will remove most of the population, causing to the tank to cycle again, leaving a fish trapped in ammonia (toxic!) rich water (not good)! EDIT 2: I would say your air pump is connected to a air diffuser (the little thing that makes bubbles), so do not worry about it.
