To standardize military products, the Department of Defense (DoD) has introduced some DoD MIL specifications. The purpose of these DoD MIL is to ensure that all defense-related products are manufactured to a standard common requirement and similar defense-related objectives. They must also have proper compatibility with logistics systems.

MIL-STD-129 is a major Department of Defense standards MIL Specifications meant for the military uniform marking for shipment and storage. Ammunition and other military equipment which is supplied through shipments are clearly defined in MIL-STD-129 standard.
