Apollo was NASA's lunar exploration program. In 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first men on the moon with Apollo 11, the last Apollo mission was Apollo 17 in 1972. Apollo 18, 19 and 20 missions were planned, but due to budget constraints that were eventually canceled.

Apollo 20 had already been canceled on January 4, 1970 as the Saturn V rocket was now needed for the space station Skylab and budget constraints have limited the production of the Saturn V 15 models of flight.

However, you can find a lot of misinformation about Apollo 20 on the web - does William Rutledge, a man who lives in Rwanda, who claimed to have been a former scientist at Bell Laboratories and employed by the Air Force said it had a top secret Soviet-American mission Apollo 20 of which is an alien spacecraft on the moon.

According to the conspiracy theory Apollo 20 reached the moon on 16 August 1976, about four years after the last Apollo mission official. The destination was Delporte, a lunar impact crater on the other side (dark of the moon). Crew members were William Rutledge (USA), Leona Snyder (USA) and Alexei Leonov (USSR) and its mission was to explore an alien spaceship apparently detected by the crew of Apollo 15 (David Scott, Alfred Worden and James Irwin) in 1971.

This can at least confirm that Alexei Leonov was a real astronaut, so was the first person to walk in space on 18 March 1965, and commanded the Soviet side of the Apollo-Soyuz mission, Soyuz 19, the first joint space mission between the Soviet Union and the U.S.. In Arthur C. Clarke 's "2010: Odyssey Two" of the fictional spaceship "cosmonaut Alexei Leonov" in the book was named after him. But Lenovo never admitted being part of a top secret mission of Apollo 20.

If you believe the story of William Rutledge, astronauts visited the city once old on the surface of the moon as a spaceship. They were also able to collect some exotic gadgets in the ship and brought one of the two pilots killed outside their Lunar Module. An analysis of the density of a meteorite impact on the city and the ship, apparently revealed that both the city and the ship has been there for about 1.5 billion years ago. And it seemed that the ship had already been explored before (probably by another alien race?).

William Rutledge published videos and images on YouTube (username "retiredafb") and other websites, and the story still media attention. Even if there are significant flaws in the videos, which identified the story as a hoax, at least one has to admit that they are well made and look very impressive and Rutledge (or ever published this) spent some time in the creation of models.

The story probably has its origins in an ancient story about the photos taken during Apollo 15 mission. These images are real photos from NASA and can be downloaded from the Universities Space Research Association, for example. Image AS15-P-9625 shows the region of Delporte, which actually includes a very strange object:

It is likely more than an illusion (remember the face on Mars?), but you must admit that seems a kind of cigar inside a crater, and it even seems cast a shadow on the surface.
